Paginel in VS Code
Your files stay in your folder, under git, with Claude Code and your other tools. The extension adds Paginel to them: the Markdown, Web, Editing and PDF views, right in the editor.
The extension is in preparation: it is not yet published on the VS Code Marketplace. Write to us to try it early.
What it does
- Opens a Markdown file (
.md) in Paginel: write in the Markdown view, switch to Web or Editing, check in PDF. The file stays plain text, readable by git and by your agents. - Opens a Word file (
.docx,.dotx) in the same views, with no Word and no Microsoft licence. Saving is faithful: what Paginel does not change is kept as it was in the file. - Exports to PDF (PDF/A optional), with the same fonts and layout as Paginel. A PDF preview also opens beside the Markdown, updated as you type.
- Runs on your machine: the Paginel engine is built into the extension. No server to start, and nothing is sent until you sign in.
For your agents
An AI agent reads a Word file poorly. So the extension can sync a Word file with a Markdown file next to it: the Markdown follows the Word continuously, and what an agent (Claude Code, for example) changes in it is merged into the Word, paragraph by paragraph. Sections given to other people are respected.
Online, if you want
Sign in to your Paginel account from VS Code to put a Markdown file online: it becomes a shared document that your colleagues and guests edit with you, with their cursors, in their browser. The document’s link is written in the file’s header (paginel:). You can fetch the online version back into your file at any time.
Trying it
A .docx opens in Paginel by default. For a Markdown file, run Paginel: open with Paginel Text from the command palette (⇧⌘P); otherwise the text stays in the usual text editor. The extension also works in compatible editors (Cursor, VSCodium) once it is published on Open VSX.
Not yet checked against the online platform: signing in, putting a file online and editing online remain to be tried by a signed-in person. What the extension does offline (views, saving, PDF) is tested in a real VS Code.
